Greetings fellow members. My name is Lissa Rolenc and I have started my term as chapter president. I’d like to introduce myself and give you an update on what the 2014-2015 board has been working on their first 30 days in office. My background is in senior living, hospitality, and multi-family housing. I have had a broad range of positions throughout my 20 year career. I live in Menomonee Falls, WI, but grew up in a small town in southern Indiana. I graduated from Indiana State University in 1994 with a BA in Interior Design. I also have a minor in Architecture and Art. I’m married to a mechanical engineer named Chris and I have two lovely teenage daughters Alexis (17) and Aliya (13). It has been an honor to serve as President-Elect in the last year, and I’m really excited about the year to come as your president.
Currently the board is working on the following for a great year:
Sponsorship– Without our sponsors we would never be able to run the fabulous events that we put on every year. We really appreciate all they do, and this year we are going to offer them even more defined levels to give them even more for their contribution.
Membership– Membership has declined with the recession in the last four years. We are working to get our membership numbers increased now that the recession is over. I would love to hear how we can make your membership more valuable.
Ambassador Program– Wisconsin is a big state with lots of population hubs. We will be reaching out to members in different areas of the State to be our regional ambassadors for the chapter. Right now the board is defining the responsibilities of this role, and how the program will work.
Career Day– In conjunction with IIDA, we will be hosting a day full of education and networking for our students. I encourage all professionals to attend to network with the designers of the future. March 6th, 2015, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m,. American Family Training Facility, 6000 Parkway, Madison, WI.
2015 Mentor/Mentee Program – Once again we are currently recruiting professionals to mentor a student for the 2015 year. We also will be reaching out to students who have shown an interest in this program. We are hoping to grow participation in this rewarding program.
First Quarter EP Meet-up Planning – We will continue to have quarterly activities for those members who are emerging professionals in their first five years of working in the interior design field.
Design Awards Submissions and Planning– Award submissions are due on November 21st for all members. Student submissions will be due December 19th. Currently we are working on the judging panel, contracts, and details for the event in March with our co-chairs and committee. Save the date for March 12th, and we will have more details to come.
Holiday Party Planning– We will be having a Holiday Party and will have more details and a date in the next week. So watch those e-blasts, and come celebrate this joyous season with your fellow designers.
Casino Night– We will be doing a Casino Night in the spring. This event will be open to friends, clients, and family. All proceeds will go to our scholarship fund and foundation for 2015. So come party, roll some dice, and support a great cause.
Sustainability Event Wrap-Up– The August event by our sustainability committee was a huge success. 10,000 pounds of material were saved from going into landfills. The 2015 event will expand even more, so watch for more details soon on where you can take those piles of unneeded samples to repurpose.
Legislation– We are working with ASID National, IIDA National, local IIDA, and IDCW to reinvigorate the state on having a voice in interior design regulations and lobbying to protect our rights to practice. The most important thing is to increase the number of registered interior designers in Wisconsin so we have a bigger voice. Encourage your fellow designers to take the NCIDQ and register with the state. We will continue to educate our members on the importance of being registered.
What’s Next– We will be planning the 3rd annual event in late spring. It will be a new trending topic that can benefit all of our members and expand our knowledge. More info to come.
Business “Tool Kit” CEU Day– We will be planning this event for summer. It will be a whole day of CEU’s and information that our members can use to start a business, expand their current business, or just grow your professional development knowledge to help you advance in your career. We will have more details as the time gets closer.
ASID 40 Year Anniversary– Not only will we be featuring 40 members over 40 in our e-blasts, we also will be planning a fun activity around the celebration of 40 years as a society.
Surprise in April– National has made us a very special opportunity to be hosted here in Wisconsin. I will announce in my next update, so stay tuned. You do not want to miss this.
We are also working on our chapter archive organization, social media platforms, and member recognition. If you know a designer who is doing something unique, great or interesting, let us know. We want to highlight them.
I promise not all my letters and updates will be this long. We do a lot as a chapter and I wanted to give you an overview of some of the highlights for the year. I encourage any feedback you may have for the board as we move forward. Contact me anytime via email at:firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone: 262-293-5099.
