As we were starting to plan the Annual Meeting, I began to realize that this event was so much more than a meeting. I thought, “Maybe we should call it something else…something that would really describe what the event was all about.”
This is how we came up with the name: A Celebration of You.
To put it in perspective: If the Design Awards are about our projects, the Annual Meeting is about our members. It is the chance for members to reconnect not only with each other but with ASID, in general. It is also a chance for us to recognize member achievements, career milestones and contributions to the Society.
With that in mind, we are thrilled that Rachelle Schoessler Lynn, the ASID National President, will be giving our keynote address. She will be speaking on the future of ASID in general and the benefits of membership in particular. Although we all know the value of our membership in ASID, it is sometimes nice to be reminded just how important each one of you and your membership is to the Society.
We will also pay tribute to Patricia Kluetz, who was awarded the status of Fellow this summer. This is the highest honor one can achieve in ASID, and we are so fortunate to have Pat as a member. I am sure you will be touched and amazed by her many achievements and contributions to the Chapter and ASID.
Before the Annual Meeting begins, we will be holding a CEU entitled You + The Power of Thinking = Opportunities in a New Economy. Given by long-time Wisconsin Chapter member Sandy Gordon, FASID, it will give you a greater understanding of your design work in context of both a local and global view of design. You will gain insight into your own practice and how you can align your core values with future economic and social trends, such as the sharing economy, social responsibility, and generational tendencies. It will be a great way to transition from your work day, and to create the state of mind for the rest of, what is shaping up to be, a truly special evening.
I hope to see you on Tuesday, September 23rd for a Celebration of You. In this season of change, it will be nice to look back and reflect upon what a great year it has been for our Chapter, and to look ahead to what will surely be another wonderful year.
With warmest regards,
Leslie Dohr, ASID
