Our November Member Spotlight is on Deb Alton, ASSID Professional! Deb has been in the interior design industry for over 30 years an currently works for Atmosphere Commercial Interiors.
What made you decide to pursue an Interior Design career?
My love of art and science was a major factor in my decision to pursue Design. I think the science behind our design decisions is fascinating and speaks to why there are so many fabulous experiences/spaces we are able to create.
What type of design are you passionate about?
Our Design choices for each project require us to invest in a very personal reflection of our individual understanding of the situation. Sometimes our greatest challenges – limited budgets, finite space, lack of resources, produces the most amazing results and forces us to tap into ideas and solutions that may not have been instantly apparent. Design as a whole is human centered, personal, and passionate so it’s difficult for me to narrow my focus. I enjoy the process no matter what the project!
What do you love about design?
Everything! But most of all finding the joy and the reward of helping clients to realize their vision. Design has been a major driver for me in where I travel, how I see the world, and my everyday experiences. It is a lens that I look through for almost everything.
How has being a member of ASID helped you in your career?
I have been a member of ASID since I was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I was involved early in my career on committees and board positions, eventually becoming president of our state chapter in 2001. Through the amazing leadership courses and opportunities to learn from others in the organization, I have developed skills that would not have been possible without this association. The friendships and camaraderie that I have experienced are priceless.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My spare time is filled with Hot Yoga, grandchildren, connecting with friends, cooking, traveling, reading (historical fiction is my JAM!) and anticipating what is next!
My Design career has led me to some amazing experiences and opportunities. I have been blessed in so many ways to have the ability to enjoy so much both in my professional life and personal life.
