Through the efforts of ASID members throughout Wisconsin, ASID national leadership, ASID Wisconsin chapter advocates, and in concert with IIDA Wisconsin and IIDA and interior design allies, we passed our bill into law with Governor Evers signature as of March 18, 2022! The new rules and regulations were approved on August 1st, 2024. Wisconsin Registered Interior Designer are able to fully practice according to the new law – including sign and seal – as of August 1, 2024.

The ASID Wisconsin Chapter Advocacy Committee is planning events to keep the Chapter informed! Review frequently asked questions below. If you have others we haven’t addressed, please email Leah.knox@creativebusinessinteriors.com. The committee will review your questions at the weekly committee meetings and respond back.

What is the Interior Design Sign & Seal Law in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin 2021 Act 195 modernizes the scope of interior design in Wisconsin. It recognizes Wisconsin registered Interior Designers (WRID) as state credentialed professionals who have met certain qualifications to sign and seal their own non-structural, code compliant documents for submittal for construction. Read the 4-page law here: Wisconsin 2021 Act 195

What is the A-E Examining Board?

The A-E Examining Board is comprised of Architects, Landscape Architects, Professional Engineers, Designers, Professional Land Surveyors, and now Registered Interior Designers. The Interior Designer Section is made up of 3 professional interior designers and 2 public members similar to the representation by other design professionals. These members are nominated, approved by the Governor, and serve at the will of the Governor. They develop the new rules, advise on new issues that may arise, and are the final approval for renewal and new WRID. Read board information here: A-E Examining Board
