Advocacy Committee

COMMITTEE STATEMENT

Advocacy on behalf of interior designers is an ongoing process – it is about SPEAKING UP and TAKING ACTION to represent the evolving interests and issues of the profession. It is about centering the needs and rights of interior designers within any decisions or actions regarding the professional practice of interior design.

The Advocacy Committee of the Wisconsin Chapter of ASID is a strategic group of member volunteers that act to bring about change, bring attention and respond to issues concerning interior design and designers, ensure professional equity, and bring voice and agency in the public realm to Wisconsin interior designers.

The committee provides public education by sharing design research, hosting educational conferences and events, and utilizing social media to highlight relevant information. The committee members advocate directly with state legislators and build relationships with key stakeholders to keep interior design issues and concerns in the legislative forefront.

The Wisconsin Chapter of ASID Advocacy Committee partners with the Wisconsin Chapter of IIDA through the Wisconsin Interior Design Consortium, a collaborative group formed with the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ) dedicated to advocacy for public safety in the built environment. We speak with one voice for all interior designers. We are your frontline to defend and advance the profession, and to inform decision makers and the public at large on the impact of design on the human experience and everyone’s health, safety and welfare. We monitor regulatory issues and concerns via engagement in the Interior Designer section of the Wisconsin State Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) Examining Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, Professional Engineers, Designers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Registered Interior Designers (A-E Board).

Through the efforts of ASID members throughout Wisconsin, ASID national leadership, ASID Wisconsin chapter advocates, and in concert with IIDA Wisconsin and IIDA and interior design allies, we passed our bill into law with Governor Evers signature as of March 18, 2022! The new rules and regulations were approved on August 1st, 2024. Wisconsin Registered Interior Designer are able to fully practice according to the new law – including sign and seal – as of August 1, 2024.
