DIRECT SUPPLY - Senior Interior Designer

What You’ll Do and Impact:

  • Own Interior Design project work throughout the project process 
    • Conceptual/Schematic Design 
      • Consult with external clients to understand their design needs
      • Travel to customer location to evaluate Interior Design site to observe existing conditions and develop project scope documentation
      • Complete Interior Design code review for furnishings & application of applicable interior finish materials to ensure compliance
      • Create concept statements for client approval
      • Select the type and quality of interior finish materials that meet the client’s budget
      • Develop preliminary space plan and FF&E budget
    • Design Development
      • Complete selections for interior finish materials, decorative lighting, furnishings, soft goods, artwork and accessories 
      • Create presentation media such as drawings, sketches, renderings, color and material boards
      • Lead design presentation for client approval
      • Coordinate with project team members and consultants on design and budget related matters.
    • Construction Documents
      • Develop legends and schedules outlining the specifications for interior finish materials, furnishings, soft goods, artwork and accessories
      • Coordinate with internal Construction Document Specialist teams to develop drawings showing material placement, interior elevations, sections and details
      • Develop furnishings plans showing the location of furniture, soft goods, artwork and accessories
      • Coordinate with internal and external project team members and consultants
    • Contract Administration
      • Issue updated documentation for construction addenda and field changes 
      • Review, evaluate and approve shop drawings and submittals, and answer Requests for Information (“RFI’s”) submitted by bidders and winning contractors
      • Visit the project site to monitor construction progress or oversee the installation of furniture, soft goods, artwork and accessories 
  • Mentor Interior Design Assistants to increase their knowledge and skill sets (EX: project types, clients, industry, presentation skills, product & Senior Living knowledge)
    • Effectively delegate project work with true development as a goal, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to partners
    • Lead design quality checks at different stages of the project process

  • Lead and participate in initiatives that benefit the design team including but not limited to: process Improvement, internal onboarding/training, marketing materials for Direct Supply Impressions.
    • Process Improvement: identify improvements within the design process and work with your leaders to roll out 
    • Internal Onboarding & Training for design team 
    • Marketing: Blog Posts, Social Media, Impressions Campaigns, Industry Interviews, Website content, marketing materials, etc
    • Sourcing: Improvements in vendor relationships and contracting, finding and onboarding new vendors, fabric/material line partnerships, fabric programs, furniture programs, etc
  • Hold and maintain necessary state licensure for Interior Design
  • Support business development work as needed to earn new clients and/or projects
  • Expertise
    •  Participate in guest speaking engagements, committees, and other events within the industry
    • Participate in industry associations such as ASID.
    • Understand and interpret industry trends and translates those to our client base.
    • Understand key business drivers of our client base including such factors as demographics, and business models

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial or healthcare interior design, including experience selling design concepts to clients
  • Demonstrated understanding of how client business models impact purchasing decisions
  • NCIDQ Certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide the daily workflow of others
  • Experience creating design process efficiencies
  • Demonstrated success handling multiple projects in various stages of completion
  • Demonstrated ability to research technical information (e.g. building codes)
  • Advanced application of design principles
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to specify high margin products, minimize margin erosion and manage design hours to maximize profitability on projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external project teams
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform hand drafting
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Participation in industry associations such as ASID and IIDA
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license with a good driving record required
  • At this point, COVID-19 vaccination is required for travel subject to permissible exceptions.

  • Intermediate Revit and Adobe Suite skills
